Decision Studio · How-to Guide

Auditable decision packets, evidence, scenarios, tradeoffs, risk, briefing, publication, monitoring, and reassessment.

Audience: product users, administrators, reviewers, and integrators.

Last verified version: 2.0.0

Reading time: 18–30 minutes

Status: Published support documentation.

Purpose

This end-to-end workflow demonstrates every documented Decision Studio capability through one fictional resilient-community-retrofit case. The objective is not to prove a real-world conclusion; it is to verify the complete product workflow with controlled data.

Prerequisites

  • The current product release
  • A new synthetic workspace
  • The all-feature CSV and JSON
  • No production or private information
  • Time to review every checkpoint

Sample data

This article uses a fictional Resilient Community Retrofit Program. The files contain one demonstration row for every documented feature, so each capability can be tested without private or production data.

Procedure

Scenario

A community center is assessing energy, comfort, financing, implementation, evidence, and monitoring needs. Use only the supplied fictional records.

  1. 1. Decision Packet: create DS-RETROFIT-001 for a community-center retrofit choice. Confirm a versioned packet containing all decision artifacts.
  2. 2. Problem Framing: define the decision, scope, objectives, constraints, stakeholders, and deadline. Confirm a bounded decision statement.
  3. 3. Evidence Ledger: add utility bills and an engineering assessment with relevance and confidence. Confirm traceable evidence records.
  4. 4. Scenario Studio: compare no action, controls-only, and whole-building retrofit. Confirm a scenario table with aligned measures.
  5. 5. Impact Records: record cost, emissions, comfort, disruption, and equity effects. Confirm structured impact entries.
  6. 6. Claim Review: review the claim that the project pays back in five years. Confirm a supported, contested, or unresolved claim state.
  7. 7. Finance Tradeoffs: compare capital, operating, lifecycle, and uncertainty considerations. Confirm a transparent tradeoff record.
  8. 8. Risk and Recovery: record contractor delay, budget overrun, rollback, and recovery. Confirm a risk register with owners and mitigations.
  9. 9. Assumption Register: record 3% annual tariff growth with source and confidence. Confirm a versioned assumption.
  10. 10. Workbench Handoffs: request lifecycle-cost and emissions calculations. Confirm a returned calculation artifact and receipt.
  11. 11. Readiness Review: check evidence, privacy, unresolved issues, and approval requirements. Confirm an advisory readiness report.
  12. 12. Briefing Studio: assemble a board briefing from reviewed packet sections. Confirm an executive brief.
  13. 13. Publication Studio: prepare a redacted public decision summary. Confirm a controlled publication artifact.
  14. 14. Outcomes Monitoring: track six months of post-retrofit energy and comfort data. Confirm outcome records and variance explanations.
  15. 15. Reassessment: reopen the decision after grant or outcome changes. Confirm a new review cycle preserving history.
  16. 16. API and Embeds: expose an approved public packet summary. Confirm a scoped privacy-aware JSON or embed.

Save and review

  1. Save the final workspace under the sample workspace ID.
  2. Close and reopen it in a clean session.
  3. Compare every feature result with the sample expected_result field.
  4. Document unresolved differences and do not hide warnings.
  5. Export one complete artifact bundle.
  6. Send one supported handoff to an integration and verify its receipt.

Supported integrations

  • Workbench
  • Catalyst Finance
  • Catalyst Data
  • Site Intelligence
  • Knowledge Library
  • Narrative Risk
  • Platform Core

Expected output

  • a versioned packet containing all decision artifacts
  • a bounded decision statement
  • traceable evidence records
  • a scenario table with aligned measures
  • structured impact entries
  • a supported, contested, or unresolved claim state
  • a transparent tradeoff record
  • a risk register with owners and mitigations
  • a versioned assumption
  • a returned calculation artifact and receipt
  • an advisory readiness report
  • an executive brief
  • a controlled publication artifact
  • outcome records and variance explanations
  • a new review cycle preserving history
  • a scoped privacy-aware JSON or embed
  • A complete saved workspace
  • A portable export
  • A validated cross-product handoff receipt

Verification

  • Every CSV feature row has a corresponding saved result.
  • The JSON workspace ID and product version are preserved.
  • The export can be inspected without temporary browser state.
  • The receiving product identifies source, destination, schema, artifact, and review state.
  • A human reviewer can reproduce or audit the demonstration.

Responsible use

The product organizes evidence and reasoning; accountable decision owners, due process, experts, and institutional approvals remain necessary.

Replace synthetic data only with information you are authorized to use, after reassessing licensing, privacy, uncertainty, and review obligations.
